dFACE Character Generator from Image

This is a FREE to use Online resource tool. It is currently in Alpha Testing.

However! You do need to be registered and logged in to access the generator as the results can take some time to finish and there is a wait queue as my current rig can only do 1 at a time. So when it is finished it will send you an email and you can download the zip package from your account area. This is one reason registration is required. The other is to prevent spamming of the system.

What to Expect

The results will very a lot depending on the quality of the image submitted. AI’s are used to try and clean up the image as much as possible. The generator will create a Daz package for you to install into your Daz Library.

Included will be a morph slider for face and expression as well as:

  • * Head Morph
  • * Expression Morph (if your character had an expression or not in the original image)
  • * Displacement Remove and Add
  • * Character map applies for G8 and G8.1
  • * Eye color options

NOTE! Currently eyebrows are removed, I intend to add an option to allow eyebrows as part of the texture maps but that requires a second bake pass through Blender which is the most time exhausting part of the character generation so that is currently not an option. There is also in the works depending on funding fiber mesh generated eyebrows. For now you should use eyebrows from MR sets or other characters.

This will produce all the character texture maps and uses the Uber Shader settings. I am open to suggestions for different shader settings but it’s currently setup to the way I like. The overall skin tone and translucency layer is generated from a sampling off the forehead area. This probably needs some improvements.

This process takes a considerable amount of time running on the Frankenstein rig. Also only one can be processed at a time, so there is a waiting list to process. You will be notified with a link via email when the process is complete. Do not wait here for it be finished, this page will not inform you that it is finished.

dFace Version 1.0 Alpha Examples

The old dedicated server crashed in November. I have migrated the site to cloud hosting so that won’t be an issue again. However all services are currently offline until I can get them reprogrammed for their new environment.

Update 6/24/2023

Was out of town for the week when a power outage went longer than the power backups could hold, and it reset causing all jobs to halt in cue. Will restart tomorrow and it will start trying to catch up.

dFACE update 5/16/2023 1.0.2

Fixed displacement maps mid range (this should eliminate the seam around the neck) and issues around eyelids. Fixed missing displacement map warnings in Apply Displacement from Content Menu icon.

Update 5/12/2023

HELP! Help me raise $3,500 USD for a new AI Box with faster GPU to run the Resource tools. Plus this would free up the current box to help with the development of new tools. Right now any tests and updates require I take Frankenstein offline to do those. Support these works and help them grow: Donate Here

General backend updates. General AI Image Enhancer images now available in users Account Dashboard for Processed Images. This is the same section as for portraits, there is a tag at the end to indicate which type of image it is.

A reminder, dFACE will only generate G8/8.1 FEMALES, I see people trying to do males and G9’s which will come out as G8F. I’m not adding the others until the baseline G8F has been tweaked. But I need your help for that too. You can help by posting results in the forums along with ideas on how you think the results could be better. Thank you.

xPression is still in the works, G8F is done and working to add G8M and G9 to it for alpha release.

dFACE update 4/20/2023 1.0.1.c

Fixed a hang bug where the alignment AI gets confused which results in the first Pytorch obj not being generated causing Blender to freeze. The fix is to throw an Error and dump the submission. This error can be detected by using the Portrait Enhancement Tool. If that tool doesn’t give you back an aligned image of the face then you know that’s what caused it. Crop the image to just the face and resubmit.
